William Fyffe Obituary

William Shanklin Loris Fyffe, son of the late Alexander and Miriam Fife was born on September 17, 1943, in Guyana.  He was the seventh child born of their marriage. After the sudden passing of his father, the family moved to Trinidad. William was raised in North Barataria, Trinidad, where he received his education. He was raised in an Adventist home where his mother was a devoted Seventh-day Adventist.

In the late 1960s, William migrated to the United States where he met his late wife, of 49 years, Winona Fyffe. Out of that union came three children Mark, Paul, and Lil’ Winona. William worked at Trump Pavilion in Jamaica, Queens, New York for many years where he eventually retired. Throughout the years William grew distant from the church.

He moved to Georgia where his daughter lived to help with his grandchildren. It was at New Hope SDA Church when he would drop off his grandchildren for Sabbath school that a member of the church would invite him inside because he would never enter on his own. He would just wait outside for services to be over. Finally, one day he did accept the persistent invitation. His faith in Christ Jesus was renewed. He would then attend Sabbath School. He also attended the church services which lead to him staying for Bible classes. He was counseled by Brother Johnson and Brother Thomas and dear friend Brother Troy. All three assisted in Williams’s decision to give his life back to Christ. He was enthusiastic about Bible study at New Hope SDA. William enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren. His hobbies were painting and making short wave radios.

Recently William became ill and had to have surgery. Unfortunately, his diagnosis was incurable, and he was admitted to hospice. On April 1st, 2021 William passed away. He is survived by his three children Mark(Lyssa), Paul(Roxanne), and Winona (Tommy). His sister Linda Fyffe, grandchildren Simone, Isis, Thomas, Nemi, Devonet, Elise, Matthew, Mark-Anthony, Daina, and Peyton. His nieces are Joanne and Patrice. His nephew is David. He has three great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, among which are the Gadsbys in Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana. He loved his church family, New Hope SDA.
