Ruth Gwendolyn Jordan Peters, age 81 passed away peacefully December 11th, 2022. She was born on the beautiful island of Tobago, August 10th, 1941, in the town of Mt St George. She was first of eight children. Daughter of Louis Clyde and Evelyn Jordan; sister of Cynthia, Helen, Daphne; brother of Orville “Bassy” (deceased), Norris “Saggy” (deceased), Vernon, and Steve.
Ruth attended Primary School at Mt St George Methodist school. Then attended Harmon’s School of S.D.A. Where she obtained her Secondary Education. From Harmon’s School she migrated to Trinidad where she attended San Fernando Nursing School and became a Registered Nurse.
Ruth met the love of her life in 1971 at Scarborough S.D.A church during an A.Y.S program. She was sitting alone. So, Colvin Peters came over and politely introduced himself. Mr. Peters in a very suave manner asked, “Why is a beautiful young lady like you sitting alone?” She replied,” I am just visiting from Trinidad San Fernando Hospital.” From that day Colvin and Ruth have been inseparable.
In 1972 they declared their engagement and were married on February 4th, 1973.
After several years of working as a nurse in Trinidad she decided to move to the United States in 1981 to continue her career. Ruth lived in what can arguably be called the best borough in New York, Brooklyn. She worked as a nurse at many hospitals in the New York City Area. Ruth continued her education and received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Medgar Evers College.
Ruth longed to live in Georgia since she was a young girl after hearing the song “Rainy night in Georgia” covered by Ray Charles. Her dream of coming to America and residing in Georgia came to fruition after she retired in 1996. Where she remained until she went to sleep in Lord on December 11th, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to on another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Ruth Peters is survived by her husband Colvin Peters. Her children, Petal Peters, Sheldon Peters, Glenn Peters, her grandchildren Khalil, Tariq, Naim, Justin, Jayla, Jameer Mykah, her nieces and nephew; Dyan, Kelly, Shelly, Iana, Imo, N’Gazelle, Shenika, Jelani, Keisha, Nathaniel, Seth, Marlon, Jerron, Jevon, Lauren, Liselle, Clarance, Patrina, her siblings: Vernon (Merlin Jordan spouse) Steve, Cynthia, Helen, Daphne (Reynold), great nieces and nephews, Tre, Ganz Jr, Ayana, Nilaya and Xavier.
