On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, Michael David Alston transitioned to his heavenly home at the Nursing Facility in Altana, GA. He is now eternally resting with our Heavenly Father.
He was born to the late Jerry Eden Alston and Goldie Williams Alston on September 3, 1946 in Warrenton, NC. He accepted Christ at a young age, baptized at First Baptist Church East End, Newport News, VA.
“Mike”, as he was lovingly called by his family and friends attended elementary school in Newport News, VA before his family moved to Hampton, VA where he attended Y. H. Thomas Jr. High and graduated from Phenix High School in 1966. After servicing three years with the U.S. Army during Vietnam war time, Mike return home and founded employment with the Newport News Shipbuilding Dry Dock Company as a welder. During his employment at the shipyard Mike took a bad fall injuring his back, on USS Enterprise, retiring early with disability benefits.
Mike loved watching television, his favorite TV shows and his favorite football team the Pittsburgh Steelers, he wore his Steelers' hat with pride to the "side".
For many years Mike had and worked many occupations, odds and ends jobs around the Hampton area. Mike loved his family, after his wife Carolyn passed, he took the opportunity to visit his family. First was his favorite cousins, Barbara and Oscar in Washington, DC where he stayed for several years. (The Twin Cousins) Finally, in 2015, Mike left for Atlanta, GA to visit his sister Onie and his baby brother (Ricky), Eric. After several years Mike enjoyed living with both his sister and his brother until he became ill from a stroke, following the diagnoses of Dementia.
Left to cherish his memory is his two daughters Wanda Alston-Riley his grandsons Brandon Alston, Cameron Riley, Donovan "Blake" Riley, and granddaughter Ryan Riley. Candace Alston his "baby" daughter, granddaughters Cirra Alston, Cimone Alston and great grandson Nigel Alston and a host of other family members and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Polly Alston Melvin, of Hampton and her sons, Tyrone J. Melvin, Sr. (Terra) Kevin J. Melvin (Mary) and Kenny J. Melvin (Meghan); his
Samuel Wade Alston (Mary) and his daughter Samantha; his sister Onie Alston Lawson (Lafayette) and her son Kwan O. Brantley (Elizabeth) all of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by one brother Eric "Ricky" Alston (Vanessa) Atlanta, GA.
