Melba Dione Leonard, a vibrant source of love and inspiration, was born on January 26, 1971, in Oakland, California, to Diana Copeland (née McConnell) and Melvin Copeland. Dione, as she was fondly known, grew up alongside her older brother, Orrick (Rick) Copeland, in a household full of life and lasting memories. Together, they shared the kind of childhood bond that shapes a person - the adventures, the mischief, and the moments that become family legend. Dione radiated warmth, creativity, and an unwavering spirit from her earliest days. After attending Montclair Elementary and Orange Park Junior High School, she continued her journey at Orange Park High School, where her dreams began to take shape.
Dione’s passion for fashion led her to Bauder College in Atlanta, Georgia, a city that would soon become her cherished home. It was there that she not only discovered her professional calling but also found the love of her life, Horacio Leonard. Their story is one of unwavering support and devotion, a partnership that played a monumental role in shaping Dione’s extraordinary life.
After earning her certification in Event Planning from Kennesaw State University, Dione channeled her unique vision and exceptional coordination skills into the creation of Higher Ground Events. Her ambition was boundless, and she transformed her dreams into a thriving business, signifying her determination to never think small.
Together, Dione and Horacio forged a remarkable path, elevating Higher Ground Events to new heights while celebrating their love for one another. Their bond was a cornerstone of their life together in Atlanta, where they built a beautiful family. Dione was not just a loving wife; she was an adoring mother to their son, Elijah Horacio Leonard, whom she cheered for at every game and every milestone, always his biggest supporter. She also embraced her bonus daughter, Whitney Arizona Martin (née Leonard), with the same unconditional love and dedication.
Dione's magnetic personality drew people to her, her charisma illuminating every room she entered. She seamlessly held together her household, her business, and her relationships with a quiet strength that inspired all those around her.
Despite facing tremendous challenges, Dione confronted her battles with resilience and grace. Even in the most trying times, she remained a radiant light, a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
In remembering Dione, let us celebrate the joy she brought into our lives and the love she shared so generously. She will forever be cherished in our hearts.
