Mary Halsey Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Halsey (née Roseland), age 79, wife of Michael Halsey, entered heaven on May 15, 2025, in Hampton, Georgia. Born on August 4, 1945, in Laredo, Texas, Mary lived a life marked by faith, devotion to her family, and a vivacious, determined spirit.

With a deep and abiding faith, Mary prayed for those she loved, especially her children, and ended every card she sent with a Bible verse meant to encourage them.

Mary met the love of her life, Michael Halsey, in a story that reads like a novel. While staying with her father and beloved stepmother Madeline in Lubbock during the summer of 1965, she interviewed for a job at Pioneer Natural Gas Co.—unaware that the man conducting the interview would become her future father-in-law. That same summer, she joined a Bible study where she met a kind and gentle woman named Mollie, who mentioned Mary to her son, soon to enroll in Dallas Theological Seminary. When Mary arrived at Dallas Bible College that fall—just two blocks from the seminary—Mike walked the two blocks to meet her, unannounced. Their connection was immediate; they were engaged six weeks later and married within six months.

Mary and Mike were married on March 26, 1966, in Dallas, Texas. Their union spanned 59 years, 1 month, and 19 days. On that 19th and final day, Mike sat beside Mary, holding her hand until she entered eternity.

Throughout her life, Mary poured herself into caring for others—both professionally and personally. She spent her career working in healthcare until retirement, when she turned her full attention to sewing. From poodle skirts to embroidered hand towels and Dallas Cowboy bowl cozies, to what she loved crafting most: quilts for the family.

Mary’s greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. She leaves behind an incredible legacy of 7 children: Michael D. Halsey, Jr. of Georgetown, TX; Matt (Yoshiko) Halsey of Georgetown, TX; Heather (Ben) Price of Castle Pines, CO; Rob (Beth) Halsey of Holly Springs, GA; Amber (John Kovzel) Davis of Concord, GA; Brent (David Dillon) Halsey of Naperville, IL; and Bethany Halsey of Decatur, GA.

Her love extended to her cherished, beautiful grandchildren: Asher Halsey, Adeleine Halsey, Hartley Halsey, Halston Halsey, Aria Halsey; Kaitlyn Davis, Ella Davis; Claire Price, Lily Price, Noelle Price; and Henri Halsey.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Despite declining health in recent years, Mary remained determined to live fully. Her petite frame belied an indomitable persistence to be with and around her family.  This most recent Mother’s Day, all seven of her children were able to be with and spend time with her.  There was nothing left unsaid when it came to how much Mary loved her children and grandchildren.  She never hesitated to let them how deeply they were loved and how proud she was of them.

Mary's family keenly feels her absence but rejoices knowing she finished the race set before her and was joyfully welcomed into eternity by the Author of her salvation.  And they hope she is dancing across heaven in some very red, very high heels.

A private burial will be held on May 20, 2025, at Honey Creek Woodlands, attended by family only.  A memorial service for all friends and loved ones will be scheduled this summer.
