Joyce Marie (Foote) Blissett made her transition at the age of 92 on November 9, 2023 at her home. Joyce was born on August 9, 1931 in Kingston, Jamaica to Ruby Cumberland and Herbert Foote. Joyce immigrated to the United States in 1950 and resided in the Bronx, New York until she relocated to Decatur, Georgia in 1997.
Joyce was mother to five daughters: Brenda Joyce Young, Ronette Ann Blissett, Janette Elaine Blissett, Lisa Minerva Blissett, and Dhana Charlene Blissett; was grandmother to Zachary L. Young, II and Daniel Pierre, and great-grandmother to Evelyn Young and Joyce Young.
Joyce’s professional career included social activism, mentoring and empowering women, and serving as a supervisor to home health care personnel in the Bronx, New York. She wholeheartedly participated in her professional activities and was loved and respected by all who came in contact with her.
Joyce maintained an avid interest in sports, political activism, the arts, and education throughout her life. She had a natural born curiousity about spirituality, the world, and was prompted until she found answers to her questions. She had an insatiable sense of humor, loved to dance, and had an appreciation for jazz music and early classic movies. She was a dedicated supporter of organizations such as Wounded Warriors, Easter Seals, ASCPA, and Mouth and Foot Artists, among many others.
Joyce touched many lives in her 92 years and will be sorely missed by her family and all who came to know her. May she rest in eternal peace in the arms of God. Amen.
