Jean Esther McClure, affectionately known as Aunty Jean, was born on October 16, 1936, to the late George V. Allen and Winifred Allen, in the town of Red Tank, Panama Canal Zone, Panama, Republic of Panama. She was the third born out of her siblings, George (D. 2009), Helena (D. 2020), Vilma (D. 2025), Norma (D. 2010), and Claudette Allen-Lawson, the sole surviving immediate family member.
She studied Home Economics and graduated from La Boca, Canal Zone High School, in 1955, with a love of learning, reading, sewing, and cooking. She developed her skills in the kitchen, where her baking was unmatched, and became well known for her famous carrot cake!
In 1961, Jean migrated from Panama to Brooklyn, NY, where she met the love of her life, Clebert McClure. The loving couple wed on June 26, 1965, and enjoyed forty-nine years of marital bliss. Clebert and Jean were the perfect couple, both sweet, loving, and giving. They loved to travel throughout the years, with Panama being their favorite destination, and they cruised all around the world. The couple became jetsetters after her retirement from Merrill Lynch. They shared a loving, comfortable life together until Clebert was called home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2014.
Jean was a very friendly, outgoing, and caring woman who was always smiling and laughing. She had an infectious laugh and a jovial spirit that loved to joke around with those around her. Jean’s love for her family was deep and could always be counted on as a mother figure, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a part of all her nephews and nieces’ lives, showing up for every celebration, graduation, and life event. Jean enjoyed music, dancing to calypso, and would be seen on the dance floor with Clebert at any function. She taught us all how to live good and do good by living a kind and peaceful life with grace.
Jean relocated to Georgia in 2016, where she lived out her final years with her sisters Helena (2020) and Claudette. She made trips back to her hometown of Brooklyn prior to 2020, where she would spend time with family, visit friends, and work at her church’s food pantry at Newman Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 65 years. Jean loved serving the Lord and was grateful for His grace and love in her life.
On Sunday, March 1, 2026, Jean was called home to be with the Lord. Jean is survived by; her sister Claudette Allen-Lawson; her nephews Alex Lloyd, Maurice Lloyd, Wayne Flood, Derrick Mapp and Daryl Kevin Allen; her nieces Delia Atkins-Oliver and Sharon Mapp-Grimes; as well as a host of grand and great-grand nephews and nieces, cousins, in-laws, extended family and friends.
Our beloved Aunty Jean will truly be missed and will forever be in our hearts. We are thankful for the legacy of her 89 years that the Lord blessed her with. Jean lived a life well lived. Matthew 25:23 "Well done, good and faithful servant", now enter into your rest.
