Earl Wood Obituary

On September 7, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland, Forest (deceased) and Deanna Wood gave birth to Earl "Quintin" Wood. He departed this life on March 31, 2021.

Quintin loved fishing, hunting, and working on cars with his grandfather, David Barnett.  He grew up in Turner Station, Maryland, as Quintin, but when his family moved to Union City, California, in 1980, he told his mother to introduce him as Earl.  He graduated from Woodside High School in 1981 and became a Manager at McDonald's, worked at the Wollongong Group, and later in the restoration of houses.  Upon moving back to Maryland in 1992, he became a truck driver with his childhood friend, Allen Stokes.

Quintin married Vern Edwards on his birthday in 2001.  What a gift! He was blessed not only with the love of his life but also her five children.  The family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 2003 and began a life of close togetherness.  Quintin lovingly assumed his role as "Father" and cared for the children as his own.  He did everything in his means to provide the best for them. They, in return, loved and respected him as a caring stepfather.  However, being a granddad was even more special.

No matter where employed, Quintin had an enviable work ethic and rapport with management and his co-workers.  He was most content in doing what he liked best, driving a truck, which enabled him to interact with others and visit numerous locales.  At the time of his passing, Quintin worked for the Elvis Trucking Company in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where his peers respected him for his diligence and character.

Quintin was often called “Big Q” or referred to as a "Gentle Giant" or "Big Teddy Bear" because of his stature and calm demeanor. He had a constant smile and an inviting personality; to know Quintin was to love him.   He was all about maintaining relationships. He demonstrated his caring for others by action.  He kept the spark in old friendships with random calls to say hello, share a childhood memory, laugh, and end with “I love you.”

Quintin leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife, Vern; his mother, Deanna B. Fleming; two sisters, Natalie Hill (Steven) and Monica Wood; two nephews, DeAndre Webb and Jared Waddell; one niece Jamira Wood-Sims; four stepsons, Keith Robinson, Kevin Robinson (Ashley), Mike Stokes (Lauren), Emon Edwards; one stepdaughter, Cieara Harris (Stan), and 13 grandchildren; four aunts, Mildred Seward (special), Lindell Hall, Sharon and Pat Barnett; goddaughter Kyshira numerous cousins; and dear friends/brothers, Allen Stokes and Brian James.
