Ailsa Brathwaite Obituary

Ailsa Brathwaite was born on May 1st, 1926, in Bagotville, West Bank, Guyana, to Kathura Sport and Isiah Fraser.  She was a twin to Cecil Fraser (who preceded her in death 15 years ago) and Sister to Ilene Munroe, Beryl Vanveldt, Evelyn, Mortimer, and Lennox Fraser. She is preceded in death by all her siblings. She was a beloved grandmother to Marlon, Rondel, Rockey, Rion, and Carowlinea. Her great-grandchildren include Imani, Lunden, Bryce, Nariah, Carter, Tristan, Camar, and Camryn.

Mrs. Brathwaite was the mother-in-law of Dennis McFarlane, Elron Fields, and Burt Lee-Bing, and the grandmother-in-law of Cenel Fields and Omar Bailey. Her nieces and nephews include Jackquline Dubay, Claude Vanveldt, Cecil Vanveldt, Mark Vanveldt, Calvin Monroe, Rudolph Monroe, Clyde Fraser, Sharon Fraser, Claudia Fraser, Russell Fraser, and Obre Fraser. She also leaves behind six great nieces and five great nephews, along with her cousin Joycelyn and many others.

As a child, she attended Nimes Methodist School and went on to become a Librarian in Georgetown, Guyana.  She enjoyed making straw hats and bags in her spare time and loved sharing her talents with others. She met our father, Prince Worrell, who introduced her to the Seventh-day Adventist faith.  Together, they had four children: Dollis (Ingrid) Fields, Donna Fraser, Neville Worrell, and Caulleen Worrell.  She is preceded in death by Neville.

She was an active member of the Wismar, Christinburg SDA Church in Guyana, and served as a deaconess as well as a youth counselor, followed by being one of the founding members of the Amelia’s Ward Seventh-day Adventist Church in Linden, Guyana.  She worked tirelessly to help win souls for Jesus and performed Ingathering duties. She was also funny, courageous, determined, tenacious, encouraging, and the list goes on.

Years later, God placed our Stepdad (Clarence Brathwaite) in her life, who was a tremendous help to her, and he migrated to the U.S. in 1980, with her following along with Caulleen 5 years later.  She was very strict about her children obtaining a good education and securing solid careers so that they could function in life independently.

Mom continued her life of service at the Maranatha SDA Church in Brooklyn, NY (as a deaconess, usher, and choir member), then here at New Hope SDA Church once she relocated from New York, serving as a deaconess and usher.

Mom worked hard, saved her money, and was able to achieve the American dream of owning a home.  She was grateful to God for everything that He had done for her. In her mind, she lacked nothing as long as she had Christ. We are grateful for the life she lived and will miss her tremendously.
