Obituary

Roan Navour Givons was born on February 4, 1979, in Black River, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to Pearline Thompson and Robert Givons.

Roan began his education at Garlogie Primary School and later attended Bellfield High School. In the mid-1990s, he migrated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he continued his education at Westlake High School.

Even during his high school years, Roan’s optimism and vibrant personality stood out. During his freshman year, he was recognized as “Most Positive Thinker,” an honor that beautifully reflected the uplifting spirit he would carry throughout his life. In his senior year, Roan participated on the Debate Team, including a debate hosted by Georgia State University. He went on to earn his high school diploma from Westlake High School in 1997.

Following graduation, Roan answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life that reflected his courage, strength, and dedication.

Those who knew Roan will remember him for far more than the milestones of his life. He had a presence that could brighten any room he entered. His quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor brought laughter to those around him, and he had a remarkable way of lifting spirits and making even ordinary moments memorable. The recognition he received as a young man for his positive spirit proved fitting, as that same warmth and light became part of how so many people came to know and love him.

Above all, Roan was a devoted father, beloved son, brother, and friend whose life touched many. His greatest legacy lives on through his three beautiful children, Joseph, Pearline, and Roan Jr., who will carry his memory, his love, and a piece of his spirit forward. He also leaves to cherish his memory his parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, and many friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

Though Roan’s time with us ended far too soon, the love he gave, the laughter he created, and the memories he leaves behind will not be forgotten. His presence will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and most of all, in the family he loved and leaves behind.

Father. Son. Brother. Friend. Marine. Gone too soon, forever remembered.
