Mario, Mario, Wherefore Art Thou, Mario? (A Mother's Lament)
Author: Tricia Newman O Mario, Mario, wherefore art thou, my son so dear? The house is hushed, yet I still hear Thy laughter linger through the air, A melody too sweet, too fair. Thy room lies still, thy shoes unplaced, Thy light once bright, the dawn erased. Yet though this grief my heart doth press, I know, my child, thy soul's at rest. I see thee in the morning sun, In every dream when day is done. Thy voice, it whispers soft and low, Through trembling leaves that gently blow. O Mario, love that cannot fade, Through Heaven's gate my prayers are laid. Thou art not lost—just gone before, To wait for me at Heaven's door. Thy kindness bloomed where pain once grew, Thy smile made skies a deeper blue. O gentle heart, my sweetest boy, Thy life was brief—but filled with joy. I hold thy name as sacred flame, Each breath I take still calls thy name. No death could part what love hath sewn, For thou art mine, and mine alone. And though I weep where shadows fall, I hear God's voice, the softest call— "Be still, thy child in peace doth sleep, No tears in Heaven mothers weep." So rest, my love, in arms divine, Until thy hand once more meets mine. O Mario, Mario—though worlds divide, A mother's heart walks by thy side.
