Hyacinth Valerie Bernard was born on December 10, 1941 in Georges Plain, Westmoreland Jamaica. She moved to Kingston where she attended Franklin Town Primary school and Campbell's institute. In Kingston, she lived with her parents Lena and George Spence as well as her brothers, Raymond and William. She was a member of Lincoln Kirk Presbyterian Church and later attended Meadowbrook United Church. She worked at Mac's Pharmacy for many years before joining Stanley Homes as a Sales Representative.

Hyacinth had many interests, but her primary hobby was crocheting. She was always making a crochet piece for a friend or family member. To this day, there are many homes in which her handiwork is still displayed, loved, and cherished.

In 1994, Hyacinth migrated to New York to embark on a new adventure. In New York, she worked in the healthcare industry where she cared for the elderly. In 1997, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to join her daughter and her growing family. While in Atlanta, her son Carlos joined the family. She was instrumental in the care, growth, and development of her three grandchildren, and worked tirelessly to ensure they were well taken care of. Her love of children extended to helping other families with their young children by filling in as a babysitter when needed.

While living in Atlanta, she was a member of White Oak Hills Baptist Church where she was an active member of the church community. She consistently volunteered with the church basketball program as well as the youth summer camp. She later joined Annistown Road Baptist Church where she became an active member of the 55+ group. She enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday school class and participated in all the activities held by the church. She volunteered to assist with the church's Vacation Bible School for many years.

Hyacinth enjoyed attending the Centerville Community Center daily where she participated in various wellness activities. She looked forward to developing and fostering relationships with other members of the senior community. She was known to be very welcoming and encouraging to new members helping to create a culture of belonging.

Hyacinth is survived by her son Carlos Macpherson, her daughter Jacqueline Cranston (Robert), and her three grandchildren Racquel, Jenelle, and Vance Cranston. She also leaves behind her brothers Raymond (Ruth), William (Audrey), Staffel, Leighton, sister Michelle and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
