Eddie Davis Jr., was born on January 27, 1931, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Laura Lee Davis and Eddie Davis, Sr.  He was the second oldest of eight children, James, Eddie, Freddie, Luther, Emma-Jean, Alexander, Burnette, and John.  He peacefully departed his life on earth with us on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

Eddie attended the historic Bay Spring School in Kelly Settlement Forrest County, Mississippi from circa 1937 – 1948.  He was an excellent basketball player and was nicked named "Pluck" for his abilities to pluck the basketball away from opponents.  Due to family needs he was not able to continue his education after high school and started working in and around Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Around Circa 1954, Eddie moved to New York City with Brother James Davis and Uncle Mack Davis in search of work and opportunities. Alexander Davis followed his brother, Eddie, to New York City, as well as other family members, leaving the Jim Crow South to reside in various parts of the United States in search of economic and social opportunities.

In 1971, Eddie met the love of his life, Norma Jean Marks, in New York City.  They were married shortly thereafter and have shared marital bliss for fifty years. To this union, they raised four children.

Eddie Davis worked for the Nassau Brick Company, Long Island, New York for twenty-two years and was the Union President, AFLCIO.  Followed by his employment at the Spear Leeds and Kellogg Financial Services Company, New York, New York for fifteen years, he retired in 1997.

Eddie was a longtime member of the Zion Temple Baptist Church, New York. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1979, under the pastorate of Reverend William Davis.

Although the family moved to Atlanta in 1988, Eddie stayed in New York to continue supporting the family until his retirement. Following his move to Atlanta he united with the Fairfield Baptist Church in circa 1998.  He was a faithful member of the Deacon Ministry and Male Chorus.  Deacon Davis was honored with the title of Dean of Deacons in 2007.

During his retirement, Eddie and his family travelled to Jamaica, Ethiopia, and Kenya as well as throughout the Country to visit various family members and friends.  He occupied most of his time bowling, attending church and keeping up the lawn.

Deacon Davis was proceeded in death by his daughter, Alison.  He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy to his loving and devoted wife, Norma Jean; daughter, Deborah; sons, Timothy, Marvin, and Eddie-Omar; siblings, Emma-Jean Davis-Conrad, Burnette Davis-Gaddis; and a countless number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
