Amy Rosetta Thomas (nee Sherman) was born February 27, 1923, in Warwick district in Manchester, Jamaica, to Isaac Sherman and Miriam Reid. She attended the Warwick All Age School up to the ninth grade level but was college-trained in her wisdom and advice. She met and married the late Amariah Thomas and moved to Mears, Clarendon, to start a family. This union produced nine children, six boys and three girls, Norma, Silburn, Charles, Raymond, Edward, Vaughn, Evoy, Heather, and Dale. She loved her Lord dearly and was diligent and faithful to Him. She served the Bryants Hill SDA Church in Clarendon, Jamaica, in various capacities including as Treasurer and in Personal Ministries and the Sabbath School Department. To help her husband meet the financial needs of the family, she travelled to the United States of America where she worked and sent funds back home. She wanted to create greater opportunities beyond sewing and farming (cane, oranges, chocolate, picking coffee with all the black ants and mosquitoes) for her family. Through the grace of God, it worked. All her children have professional degrees today. She had an extensive and detailed memory. She remembered details from her children's social experiences as well as their professional accomplishments. She was called upon with confidence to recall details from 30 years ago, 30 days ago, as well as her opinion for the future. If you wanted a phone number or an address for anyone, she was the one to ask. In addition, she enjoyed poetry and had an exceptional memory for those long and meaningful poems. She provided a great example of a good and meaningful relationship between her and her husband. The way they communicated with each other gave great examples of how a relationship of a wife and husband should be. Up until her death she stayed connected with all her family, including in-laws, grands, and great-grandchildren. To the very end, she had it all together! On Sabbath, May 13, 2023, she went to sleep peacefully at home. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her with her winsome smile and belly laughs. She was a joy to be around. She is survived by her nine children, thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and other loved ones. She epitomized Proverbs 31:28, which says that, "Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." We all miss her dearly.
